The grand song and dance "The Romantic Show of Shanghai" is based on the magnificent historical tapestry of Shanghai, depicting its past and present. The performance is divided into acts such as "The Origin of Shenhu" "Extraordinary Shanghai" "Awakening Era" and "Winds from the Sea" showcasing the remarkable events throughout Shanghai's history. It portrays the efforts of the Chunqiu period's Lord Chunshen in dredging the Huangpu River, the grace and charm of Shanghai's Jiangnan region, the ups and downs of the iconic Bund, the ideals and passion of the awakening era, the rapid transformation of modern Shanghai in the new era, and the cultural essence of the World Expo and the development of Pudong. The production captures the essence of Shanghai's red culture, Shanghainese culture, and Jiangnan culture in a vivid manner. With 3,000 tons of water flowing into the Huangpu River and tens of thousands of sets of stage machinery and equipment creating a visual feast, the audience is in for a truly awe-inspiring experience.

First Scene: The Origin of Shenhu

More than 2,000 years ago, Shanghai became the fief of Chunshenjun Huang Xie, one of the "Four Lords of the Warring States". At that time, the rivers here were often flooded, and people suffered from it. Chunshenjun led the people to successfully quell the flood. This spirit of fearing difficulties and facing difficulties became an important beginning of the Shanghai spirit. In order to commemorate Chun Shenjun's achievements, later generations called Shanghai as "Shenhu".

          Second Scene: Shanghai's Wonders

The vast Huangpu River has flowed for thousands of years, nurturing the essence of Shanghai's southern charm depicted in poems and paintings. Jiangnan is like a painting, shrouded in misty rain, captured in ink and brushstrokes. Jiangnan is like a melody, spoken in soft Wu dialect, conveying the untold stories of human vicissitudes. This land, filled with ever-changing stories, is destined to become an oriental legend.

          Third Scene: Glorious Pujiang

"Awakening Era": A century of transformation begins with awakening. At the beginning of the 20th century, China was in a state of turmoil and facing both internal and external challenges. In 1921, Shanghai became the starting point of the Chinese revolution. Represented by Chen Yannian and Chen Qiaonian, the two sons of Chen Duxiu, a young generation full of revolutionary ideals stepped forward one after another, using their youth and blood to dye this land red. Let us revisit that turbulent and magnificent era.

Fourth Scene: Wind from the Sea

Looking back for thousands of years, the vicissitudes of a century have changed dramatically. From the East China Sea fishing port to the international metropolis, from Chunshenjun to today’s Shanghai, is like a giant ship of the east, sailing to the blue ocean through the wind and waves!
