set up the theory of Metropolitan Region brought forward that
there are six metropolitan regions in the world. The irst

■In 2003, the value of merchandise output
of Hangzhou was 43% of GDP of the city. Total retail sales
of consumer goods reached CNY58.752 billion with an increase
of 12.4% compared with that of the previous year. In the
irst three quarters of 2004,total retail sales of consumer
goods reached CNY 51.574 billion with an increase of 16.4%
compared with that of the previous year.
